A List

  1. a) talk cute to my animals, even the not-so-cute ones.  If you have nice things to say about my Giant African Train Millipede, Millie the Thoroughly Modern Millipede you are pretty golden. b) be good with kids. Especially be down with adoption. c) do interesting things. Things like model rockets, dinosaurs, ice blocking, etc. d) not be afraid to get dirty.  I do not like wussy boys who are too worried about their nice clothes to lift wood for a fire or check an engine or plant a garden. e) use passably correct grammar and spelling.  You don't have to be an English major, but be well read and don't say "liberry" or "suposably" or "fustrated."
  2. People should be able to keep animals that they can safely and responsibly care for!  Should everyone have sugar gliders? Or tigers? NO.  But not everyone should be allowed to have DOGS either.  People that know what they are doing, and can care for an animal CORRECTLY, should have the right to do so.  I can provide correctly for my gliders. So I can own them. I could not care for a tiger (few, outside of Zuzuna, could) so I shouldn't be able to.  Z wrote a good opinion piece on it, here.  This Ohio thing has been a TRAGEDY.  I just wish it didn't cause even more hurt by prompting bans. :( BOO.
  3. Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns My mom loved this book and I kept meaning to read it. I finally did and apparently it's hereditary. I LOVED this book. I loved how the characters were complex... nobody was all good or all bad, they were very real. And I could see various points of view. I loved the rich descriptions, the culture, so different from my own, the history. THIS is a good book.
  4. This one is going to be embarrassing. *SIGH*
  • Woke up, very tired
  • dressed Halloweeny
  • took pills, drank breakfast
  • went to work. Read Dinosaurs' Halloween, passed out dinosaur masks and helped children make dinosaur Trick-or-Treat sacks
  • Came home
  • watched Grudge 2 (LAME.)
  • Spent way too much time on Facebook and Pinterest
  • ate a cardboard pizza, regretted it immediately after.
  • watched Gremlins (still love it)
  • fed the lizards, frogs and turtles
  • watched the Office
  • Blogged
  • Fed the fuzzies
  • Going to bed with a book now... I will finish this list later!
5. Fresno - I never pretended to be someone I wasn't. EVER.  Anything you expected of me that I wasn't was made up in your own mind, and that's not my fault. I am me. I need to find someone who likes THAT.
TexasBoy - You ended things like an immature baby. That was a really jerky thing to do. Poetry Boy - I ended things like an immature baby. That was a really jerky thing to do. I am sorry. Not sorry like we should be together, but sorry I didn't end it like an adult instead of moving away and not giving a forwarding address. Ola - I still love you, but I also truly believe you are meant for bigger things. I believe you will do GREAT things for your people. I am so proud to have known you. Please find happiness. You are my hero.
6. Most of it sucks. There is too much sex, too little poetry.
7. a) People who can't be bothered to spell check things they post online. When you are online, often all you KNOW of someone is what they write... can't you at least be bothered to spell check it?! b) People who irresponsibly let their pets breed for whatever stupid reason. Are you a breeder with a registered dog with necessary health and genetic tests for both animals and you are prepared to find excellent homes for their offspring? No?  You just want fluffy to have cute witto baby wabies? DON'T BREED!!! c) How feeder crickets die before I can feed them to my frogs. d) How my padre watches his news shows SO LOUD in the room next to my bedroom early in the morning.  We have 3 TVs. Couldn't he blast it on one of the other 2? e) People who think of pets as disposable. I don't care if it's a fish or a dog, pets are not disposable.
8. So far? A Slimfast, a sugar cookie, and a Vanilla Coke Zero.
9. Education is one of the most important things in the world.  But not all of it is formal education.  I believe your education in this life is one of the ONLY things you can take with you into the next life after you die. It is eternal. So learning should be eternal.  But a lot I have learned has never resulted in a degree. MOST, actually. But it has made me who I am.  I recently started back at school though, to further my education on the degree side. At first it was Vet Tech, now it is ASL and Deaf Studies.  But I feel, wether I am in college or not, I should ALWAYS be learning.

[It is now a few days later. So pardon the weirdness.]

10. Shuffled Playlist:

  1. Kiss Me Through the Phone by Soulja Boy
  2. The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel
  3. White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane
  4. Your Love is My Drug by Ke$ha
  5. Need You Now by Lady Antebellum
  6. Honest Face by Liam Finn and Eliza Jane
  7. Muita Bobeira by Souza
  8. Symphony No. 3 in E Flat major, Op. 55, "Eroica" by  Nicolaus Esterhazy Sinfonia
  9. Question by Old 97's
11. For the purposes of time and space, I am going to leave out furrbabies and other pets and extended family (like my cousin/BFF, Megan) even though they sometimes even out rank my direct fam. But yeah.  Padre.  Professionally, he is a property manager. However, he spends more time golfing.  He is also the Ward Clerk and loves being "in" on all the ward stuff. He loves church business more than anyone should. Mom. She teaches the 6 year olds at church.  She had a stroke a couple years ago and still has memory problems, balance problems, and sees double, but works very hard to overcome it.  She is one of my best friends. We do water aerobics together. Rinny. My younger sister and boss at Thanksgiving Point.  She is the Education Director there.  She is pretty much as bad at dating as I am which is why she even though she is super cute, dances, and cooks like a pro she is over 30 and single. Boy Kid. My baby bro.  Goes to BYU, majoring in the business side of Recreation Management. (Like trade fairs and event planning).  Awesome on the guitar.  Incredibly funny and GOOD. So good... one of the most righteous people I know. SUCH an example to me.  Usually found riding his motorcycle or his longboard!

12.

Heath Ledger </3 *sigh* :(

Olakunlemi. Real. Real wonderful and real cute, too.

A two-fer! Ewan McGregor and Josh Hartnett. Mmmmm....

Seth Green. So nerdy. So darling.

13.Ugh. My body? My BIGGEST complaint is that is keeps malfunctioning on me. Gastroparesis, bad liver, migraines.  But also I really am unhappy about my weight. Some people might read this and think, okay, then change it!  Well, here is the problem I AM. I am working with my doctor on it, actually.  I take pills, but I take pills that make you GAIN weight. I do water aerobics, but I can't do other exercise because I will get hurt.  And I eat a very strict diet for the most part (esp. with my worsening Gastro).  But I am still a big girl and probably always will be.  My doctors and I ARE discussing more drastic actions further down the road, but those scare the h**l out of me.  There ARE things I like about my body though.  I have killer calves.  My lips are pretty awesome, as are my eyes. So I am not a complete waste.
14. It was church, so I wore sort of a crinkly black and grey flower peasant skirt, a denim skirt, and a hematite necklace.  I will tell you a secret, I was secretly longing to top the outfit off with my pair of black cat ears. Because it is the day before Halloween. But I resisted. :P

15. I am an Aries. According to the all-wise internet, that means I am...
Adventurous and energetic
Pioneering and courageous
Enthusiastic and confident
Dynamic and quick-witted
On the dark side...

Selfish and quick-tempered
Impulsive and impatient
Foolhardy and daredevil   .

That doesn't really sound like me at all. (Okay, maybe I am "quick witted")  Since I don't really place any stock in horoscopes that doesn't surprise me.  THOUGH that same site also said THIS:
"Aries governs the head and brain, and Arians are said to be prone to headaches, particularly migraines, sunstroke, neuralgia and depression. Indigestion and nervous disorders are also threats to you, and your rashness, impetuosity and wholesale physical commitment make you liable to accidents and physical injuries."
Spooky!
On the other hand, while I still don't BELIEVE it, in the Chinese Zodiac I am a sheep (interestingly, Aries is a goat) and I fit THAT description pretty well!
16. I always wonder what if I hadn't lost touch with my best friend, Jonathan from 1st grade. He moved to Idaho and I was so sad. Would we still be friends? Would we have dated?
17. I am super proud of my animals.  I enjoy showing them off to people.
18. My problem right now is that this is an EXTREMELY long survey and I have a short attention span!!!
19. a) a yard big enough for a turtle pond and tortoise garden b) an indoor swing c) an indoor slide that runs along the stairs d) a pet capybara (like Caplin and Galibaldi) e) a Paper Airplane kite!

20. It's Halloween and we all have things we are afraid of. What are MY phobias? http://phobialist.com/

Aphenphosmphobia- Fear of being touched (this is just more a REACTION than a true phobia, as phobias are IRRATIONAL fears. I avoid being touched as I have severe Fibromyalgia and hurts to be touched. So I try never to be bumped)

Claustrophobia- Fear of confined spaces.

Dentophobia- Fear of dentists. (so so much!)

Equinophobia- Fear of horses. (a very LITTLE bit. ANd I am working hard to get over it as I work with horses and like them, they just scare me for no reason!)

Nosocomephobia- Fear of hospitals.

Trypanophobia- Fear of injections. (serious one)

Though my biggest fear is not on that list. Fear of Anesthesia. I hate hate hate going under for surgeries. I am scared I will not wake up. But even more than that I am afraid I will go under just enough that I can not communicate but not enough that I can not feel and that they will operate ANYWAY. That I will feel the surgery but will be unable to scream. It started as a child. When I got my tonsils out, as I was going under I yelled "I'm still awake!" every 5 seconds (more and more garbled and slurred) until I was totally out so they didn't start too early. The surgeons thought to was HILARIOUS and kept laughing at me instead of consoling me at all. Jerks. I still feel that same feel and as I have many medical issues, I have to go under pretty often. I HATE it.

I have so many mental and emotional issues, making a list like this probably SHOULD make me feel even crazier than I am! But instead, seeing ALL those crazy things people CAN be afraid of, it makes me feel pretty NORMAL! Plus a little brave. After all, I am NOT afraid in the least of spiders, bugs, snakes, blood (just the injection used to TAKE said blood!), germs or dogs!

P.S. And for the record, can I just say... Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia- Fear of long words. That one's just CRUEL!

21. Less painful. And lonely.
22. Going back to school soon. I can register tonight at midnight, but I don't know if I will. I really need to have a placement interview first.
23. I miss gambling with Trick-or-Treat candy with my sister after Halloween. GOOD TIMES!
24.
"Bewbs""Audacity""The Fringe will Rear Again""Guy on a Buffalooooooo!""I have one minute weft in my bwain! Ime is wunning out! GUESS!"
25. My stomach. I am getting tests run right now.
26. I like that I am smart. I like my legs and lips (see question 13, just the end). I like my artistic sense. I like that I do not give up easily. I like that I have respect for living things.  I do not like my health, nor most of my looks (see 13 again). I do not like that I hurt. I do not like how scared I am in social situations.  I do not like how easy it is to compare myself to others.
27. "If you don't laugh you cry." I don't know who said it, but I live by it. OH! But I heard a related one, by a very admirable lady!
“The only way to get through life is to laugh your way through it. You either have to laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh. Crying gives me a headache.” ― Marjorie Pay Hinckley
28. Australia. Just to visit. Mostly just to see the animals, especially gliders in the wild.
29. a) Baby Brussels Sprouts. YUM. b) the play, Urinetown c) Perry Mason d) My millipede, Millie, the Thoroughly Modern Millipede e) never wearing make up besides Halloween
30. One of the story times at work is the story of the Christmas Spider. It is a cute story, a cute craft, and I think it is hilarious to relate spiders to Christmas.  I am so psyched to tell that story!

Lists and a Hedgehog and Rats

Things I think my future kids will say
  • I don't have to obey you, you're not my real mom!
  • What's a Walkman?
  • Can I take one of your animals to school for show and tell?

Things I want for Christmas
Things I am really tired of
This headache. This plus 3 month long migraine
Living at the padre's
Not being a real part of this ward because I don't stay the whole time because my head hurts and stuff

So I MAY be GETTING that Hedgehog, and early.  I am talking to a girl who has a perfect one named Mr. Ouwie that needs a new home.  He is darling. I don't know about having him early, as I am going through all this USDA stuff, but he is going to need to be registered too anyway because I definitely want him to be part of Critters 2 Go!  Anyway, I am texting the girl about the little guy back and forth tonight.

Meanwhile, I HAVE RATS. 2 truly darling little girls that if I could I would keep but I can't so I am looking for someone awesome to love them.  Because I already adore them and they deserve it.

Nutshelling It

1. What time did you get up this morning? 10, which is plenty early, thank you. Cali asked me if she could come in via my window and I let her. Good thing as I was supposed to go to work. I really do love that cat.

2. How do you like your steak? Mooing. No, not rare... literally. I don't LIKE steak, so I rather prefer cows as friends. Not that I am a vegitarian even, it's just I hate getting to KNOW somebody only to have them become FOOD. And this is me and my new favorite cow. She is a calf named Rosebud. She is so cuddly she thinks she is a dog.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? Probably Twilight, with the Fam. It's been awhile.

4. What is your favorite TV show? Office, or Heroes, or possibly 30 Rock or NCIS. Sometimes Perry Mason, still though.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? If I somehow was sill allowed the pets I have and want though they are illegal there then back in Hawaii, probably.

6. What did you have for breakfast? SlimFast: The

7. What is your favorite cuisine? Probably Chinese or Italian.

8. What foods do you dislike? My System greatly dislikes spicy things, even when my tongue likes them. Other than that, umm, a lot of stuff really. Because a lot of foods make me sick, so I am pretty picky.

9. Favorite Place to Eat? Possibly Macaroni Grill or China Bowl.

10. Favorite dressing? Depends on the salad. They have to go with the salad. For, like, fruity ones, like Asian salads with mandarin oranges or spiced nuts raspberry vinigaretes or poppy seed. But for, like, a salad made mostly of lettuces Bleu Cheese. I am a big fan of dressings that GO with the salad... like a salad RECIPE, not just "oh, what can I dump on this?"

11.What kind of vehicle do you drive? Ducky, the Jeep may NEVER be out of the shop, kind of like his driver. SIGH. Most often these days I find myself driving either the Tractor or Super Golf Cart things at work.

12. What are your favorite clothes? This is going to sound so evil, but if I could I swear I would be nude.

Other than that, funny t-shirts.

13. Where would you visit if you had the chance? Australia. I would totaly dig seeing cousins of my babies flying all wild through the trees!

14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full? It's both... duh.

15. Where would you want to retire? My own little goat farm or something. But I'd ike to do that BEFORE being too old to enjoy it.

16. Favorite time of day? Non-morning

17. Where were you born? Chicago, Illinois-ish... Downer's Grove specifically.

18. What is your favorite sport to watch? Quidditch ;) (Yup, still answering that that way.)

19. Who do you think will not tag you back? Don't care.

20. Person you expect to tag you back first? Don't Care.

21. Who are you most curious about their responses to this? Not really doing the Tag thing here. Just writing something other than whining about medical problems for a change!

22. Bird watcher? Yes, a little, though, I do not hang bird feeders in this, the parent's, yard. Because they would just make it a little too convenient for Cali to murder them.

23. Are you a morning person or a night person? NIGHT.

24. Pets? 3 adorable sugar gliders. 1 semi-feral neighbor cat. 1 Russian tortoise and 1 turtle, still at my apartment being tended by my Roomie that I don't even live with right now. 3 Bull frogs, in various stages... but I really WILL return them to the wild soon.

25. Any new and exciting news that you'd like to share? I don't like any of the news that is currently in my life. My Uncle Ken has Cancer and they are doing surgery this week. This is Brady's dad... Brady who was killed in 9-11. I don't think that is freaking FAIR is all. *crying*

My mom still can't see. I also may have the same heart defect that caused her stroke, which may be why my migraines are so bad. I will be getting the tests. But they are expensive.

26. What did you want to be when you were little? An astronaut, teacher, vet, paleontologist, mom, zookeeper, artist, author and professional roller skater. Except for the skating, my job pretty much covers it, so that works (except for the salary and benefits).

27. What is your best childhood memory? I have a LOT of them. I can't decide. I had a really awesome childhood. No joke.

28. Are you a cat or dog person? Yes. I used to say Dog person, no question. But now, well, I really like Cali, so it turns out I am a CAT person too. Go figure!

29. Are you married? No way!

30. Always wear your seat belt? Always!

31. Been in a car accident? Yes, though fortunately only minor ones. Though I still think they are pretty traumatic! Like hitting that deer that one Valentine's with Mali and Megs and BoyKid? That seriously STILL gives me nightmares, even though BoyKid was highly funny and quotable.

32. Any pet peeves? People who ONLY talk on speaker phone, and walk into rooms doing so, and then are annoyed YOU are being loud. UMMM, YOU walked in, Dad. Go talk in YOUR room.

33. Favorite pizza topping? "Hawaiian"... Canadian Bacon, Pineapple, etc. Mmmm!

34. Favorite Flower? Daisies or Plumeria... or Dandelions!

35. Favorite ice cream? Pralines and Carmel

36. Favorite fast food restaurant? Einstein Bagels or Betos... or Sonic just for the drinks

37. How many times did you fail your driver's test? Zero. Passed it the first time

38. From whom did you get your last email? Ummm... someone in the Red Ear Slider Yahoo group?

39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? Ummm since I would just have to PAY THE BILLS, none. But if I could just have a GIFT card, any bookstore, thanks!

40. Do anything spontaneous lately? Took a picture of a Stegosaurus wearing plastic booties?

41. Like your job? I make cardboard tulips, drive tractors, color pictures, hug baby animals, make a thermometer out of a water bottle, program robots, raise tadpoles, grow wheat in a necklace, make ice cream in a tupperware, make space suits, convince 12 year olds there is such thing as fairies, get free popcorn, snuggle calves, pet chickens, laugh at children, make fossils, launch rockets, and take pictures of a stegosaurus wearing plastic booties...

WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE?!?!

42. Broccoli? It's okay. I prefer Cauliflower, but it is okay. I used to LOVE it when I was little though, with Velveeta. Now, for some reason, I don't love it as much. :(

43. What was your favorite vacation? Probably Hawaii with the fam when we saw the sea turtle or the really random Disneyland trip with Coats and the Deaf club or spring break that was just HILARIOUS with Melissa and Alia and Karalee when we were totally LOST most of the time in Honolulu.

44. Last person you went out to dinner with? The fam. :)

45. What are you listening to right now? crickets.

46. What is your favorite color? Purple

47. How many tattoos do you have? a bunch! They are in my junk drawer!

But, umm... none of them are real.

48. Coffee drinker? Just a coffee smeller... were it not for being Mormon though, I think it would SURELY be a one of my DAILY vices, though. Because I LOVE it.

49. How many children do you have? depends on the day! But I don't take them home with me. ;) Unless you count the furry or scaley kind.

50. How many siblings do you have? 2 (and I'M from Utah, TOO, Kami! :OP).

In the Wake of "Almost 30"

9 things I did this week SO FAR...

1. helped vaccinate a goat. Poor Ambrosia rather hates me right now. (Goats hold grudges!) But it is for her own good, I swear!
2. risked my job for a raccoon in a trap (Yeah, sorry, I know they are a menace, but they should only have to stay in the trap for only so long with out food and water before a humane trap becomes very very CRUEL. So yeah. Please don't tell on me.)
3. finally saw Stardust (and love love loved it! Especially loved that the "mouse" was really a sugar glider.

And loved the lightning fishermen. HILARIOUS.)
4. shot off Alka-seltzer rockets with 13 little boys and 1 little girl and 2 went so high they landed on the roof of the barn! (I *heart* Steve Spangler so much!)
5. FOUND a "Wild" BookCrossing book! I am going to read it and release it again!
6. wrote my baby bro in Italy. 's'been awhile. Sorry, BoyKid.
7. made butterfly keychains with a teacher interested in taking her kids to the Garden for our newest field trips... who turned out to be a HOME SCHOOL teacher/mom with all of 3 children/students. Not exactly big business. Oh well.
8. got too sick with a migraine to even teach my dinosaur class. And I LOVE those.
9. Turned 29

Come and Knock on My Door....

One of the most UNIQUE quizzes I have heard in a long time. Stolen from Stewie.

1. Let us assume you met a rudimentary magician. Let us assume he can do five simple tricks--he can pull a rabbit out of his hat, he can make a coin disappear, he can turn the ace of spades into the Joker card, and two others in a similar vein. These are his only tricks and he can't learn any more; he can only do these five. HOWEVER, it turns out he's doing these five tricks with real magic. It's not an illusion; he can actually conjure the bunny out of the ether and he can move the coin through space. He's legitimately magical, but extremely limited in scope and influence.

Would this person be more impressive than Albert Einstein?

A real magical person IS pretty cool, but I kind of have a secret dead guy crush on Albert Einstein. Not to the level that I love Paul the apostle, but I love Einstein. He has way more depth than this theoretic magician.

2. Baleeted?

3. Let us assume there are two boxes on a table. In one box, there is a relatively normal turtle; in the other, Adolf Hitler's skull. You have to select one of these items for your home. If you select the turtle, you can't give it away and you have to keep it alive for two years; if either of these parameters are not met, you will be fined $999 by the state. If you select Hitler's skull, you are required to display it in a semi-prominent location in your living room for the same amount of time, although you will be paid a stipend of $120 per month for doing so. Display of the skull must be apolitical.

Which option do you select?

I am good with either. I LIKE turtles and have 2. I certainly plan on keeping THOSE alive for far more than 2 years, so I wouldn't worry about getting FINED. BUT I wouldn't mind earning $120 each month, just for keeping a skull on a shelf. I mean, it's just a skull. I don't have to pray to it or LIKE him or anything, right? Unless I get a stipend for the turtle, too, or unless it comes with a lot of free supplies to be used by my others as well, I will take the bone head.

4. Genetic engineers at Johns Hopkins University announce that they have developed a so-called "super gorilla." Though the animal cannot speak, it has a sign language lexicon of over twelve thousand words, an I.Q. of almost 85, and--most notably--a vague sense of self-awareness. Oddly, the creature (who weighs seven hundred pounds) becomes fascinated by football. The gorilla aspires to play the game at its highest level and quickly develops the rudimentary skills of a defensive end. ESPN analyst Tom Jackson speculates that this gorilla would be "borderline unblockable" and would likely average six sacks a game (although Jackson concedes the beast might be susceptible to counters and misdirection plays). Meanwhile, the gorilla has made it clear he would never intentionally injure any opponent.

You are commissioner of the NFL: Would you allow this gorilla to sign with the Oakland Raiders?

No, that's not fair because not everyone could have a gorilla on their team. BUT I would let him practice with the team if he wanted, and they want to. Because I like Gorillas. And sign language. hee hee!

5. You meet your soul mate. However, there is a catch: Every three years, someone will break both of your soul mate's collarbones with a Crescent wrench, and there is only one way you can stop this from happening: You must swallow a pill that will make every song you hear--for the rest of your life--sound as if it's being performed by the band Alice in Chains. When you hear Creedence Clearwater Revival on the radio, it will sound (to your ears) like it's being played by Alice in Chains. If you see Radiohead live, every one of their tunes will sound like it's being covered by Alice in Chains. When you hear a commercial jingle on TV, it will sound like Alice in Chains; if you sing to yourself in the shower, your voice will sound like deceased Alice vocalist Layne Staley performing a capella (but it will only sound this way to you).

Would you swallow the pill?

I will totally swallow the pill... and then, eventually quit listening to music because I can't handle the monotony.

6. At long last, someone invents "the dream VCR." This machine allows you to tape an entire evening's worth of your own dreams, which you can then watch at your leisure. However, the inventor of the dream VCR will only allow you to use this device of you agree to a strange caveat: When you watch your dreams, you must do so with your family and your closest friends in the same room. They get to watch your dreams along with you. And if you don't agree to this, you can't use the dream VCR.

Would you still do this?

Sometimes, but not often. I remember my dreams on my own, I don't need to WATCH them.

7. Defying all expectation, a group of Scottish marine biologists capture a live Loch Ness Monster. In an almost unbelievable coincidence, a bear hunter in the Pacific Northwest shoots a Sasquatch in the thigh, thereby allowing zoologists to take the furry monster into captivity. These events happen on the same afternoon. That evening, the president announces he may have thyroid cancer and will undergo a biopsy later that week.

You are the front page editor of The New York Times: What do you play as the biggest story?

It would be really easy to say both monsters were found in the same story, seriously. It's practically the same story. THAT is what I would run. But with an emphasis on Nessie because I like her more than Big Foot.

8. You meet the perfect person. Romantically, this person is ideal: You find them physically attractive, intellectually stimulating, consistently funny, and deeply compassionate. However, they have one quirk: This individual is obsessed with Jim Henson's gothic puppet fantasy The Dark Crystal. Beyond watching it on DVD at least once a month, he/she peppers casual conversation with Dark Crystal references, uses Dark Crystal analogies to explain everyday events, and occasionally likes to talk intensely about the film's "deeper philosophy."

Would this be enough to stop you from marrying this individual?

I am mildly ashamed to admit this might ENCOURAGE me to marry this individual.

9. A novel titled Interior Mirror is released to mammoth commercial success (despite middling reviews). However, a curious social trend emerges: Though no one can prove a direct scientific link, it appears that almost 30 percent of the people who read this book immediately become homosexual. Many of these newfound homosexuals credit the book for helping them reach this conclusion about their orientation, despite the fact that Interior Mirror is ostensibly a crime novel with no homoerotic content (and was written by a straight man).

Would this phenomenon increase (or decrease) the likelihood of you reading this book?
Probably decrease it, or I just wouldn't care either way.

10. This is the opening line of Jay McInerney's Bright Lights, Big City: "You are not the kind of guy who would be in a place like this at this time of the morning." Think about that line in the context of the novel (assuming you've read it). Now go to your CD collection and find Heart's Little Queen album (assuming you own it). Listen to the opening riff to "Barracuda."

Which of these two introductions is a higher form of art?

C. None of the Above. (Yeah, I have neither)

11. You are watching a movie in a crowded theater. Though the plot is mediocre, you find yourself dazzled by the special effects. But with twenty minutes left in the film, you are struck with an undeniable feeling of doom: You are suddenly certain your mother has just died. There is no logical reason for this to be true, but you are certain of it. You are overtaken with the irrational metaphysical sense that--somewhere--your mom has just perished. But this is only an intuitive, amorphous feeling; there is no evidence for this, and your mother has not been ill.

Would you immediately exit the theater, or would you finish watching the movie?

LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. Granted, in my case there is equal chance this is a massive panic attack as that it is the Holy Ghost warning me of a true thing. But why take a chance for something dumb like a movie?

12. You meet a wizard in downtown Chicago. The wizard tells you he can make you more attractive if you pay him money. When you ask how this process works, the wizard points to a random person on the street. You look at this random stranger. The wizard says, "I will now make them a dollar more attractive." He waves his magic wand. Ostensibly, this person does not change at all; as far as you can tell, nothing is different. But--somehow--this person is suddenly a little more appealing. The tangible difference is invisible to the naked eye, but you can't deny that this person is vaguely sexier. This wizard has a weird rule, though--you can only pay him once. You can't keep giving him money until you're satisfied. You can only pay him one lump sum up front.

How much cash do you give the wizard?

I would probably give him however much cash I actually had. So, like right now? I could only be like, $12 sexier. But I guess that's pretty good if you could even notice ONE dollar, right?

13. Every person you have ever slept with is invited to a banquet where you are the guest of honor. No one will be in attendance except you, the collection of your former lovers, and the catering service. After the meal, you are asked to give a fifteen-minute speech to the assembly.

What do you talk about?

I will NOT be giving a speech and since 1. I hate speeches 2. I haven't slept with anyone. But if the catering service wants to give me a yummy meal, fine with me.

14. For reasons that cannot be explained, cats can suddenly read at a twelfth-grade level. They can't talk and they can't write, but they can read silently and understand the text. Many cats love this new skill, because they now have something to do all day while they lay around the house; however, a few cats become depressed, because reading forces them to realize the limitations of their existence (not to mention the utter frustration of being unable to express themselves).

This being the case, do you think the average cat would enjoy Garfield, or would cats find this cartoon to be an insulting caricature?

I think most cats would like Garfield, at least the funnier ones. It's mostly insulting to dogs. But mostly I think they'd be wondering what they hell humans were thinking when we started making up LOLCatz. hee hee hee hee!

15. You have a brain tumor. Though there is no discomfort at the moment, this tumor would unquestionably kill you in six months. However, your life can (and will) be saved by an operation; the only downside is that there will be a brutal incision to your frontal lobe. After the surgery, you will be significantly less intelligent. You will still be a fully functioning adult, but you will be less logical, you will have a terrible memory, and you will have little ability to understand complex concepts or difficult ideas. The surgery is in two weeks.

How do you spend the next fourteen days?

Probably trying to psych myself into actually HAVING it. I really value intelligence... I might just live my life for 6 months to the fullest instead.

16. Someone builds and optical portal that allows you to see a vision of your own life in the future (it's essentially a crystal ball that shows a randomly selected image of what your life will be like in twenty years). You can only see into this portal for thirty seconds. When you finally peer into the crystal, you see yourself in a living room, two decades older than you are today. You are watching a Canadian football game, and you are extremely happy. You are wearing a CFL jersey. Your chair is surrounded by books and magazines that promote the Canadian Football League, and there are CFL pennants covering your walls. You are alone in the room, but you are gleefully muttering about historical moments in Canadian football history. It becomes clear that—for some unknown reason—you have become obsessed with Canadian football. And this future is static and absolute; no matter what you do, this future will happen. The optical portal is never wrong. This destiny cannot be changed.
The next day, you are flipping through television channels and randomly come across a pre-season CFL game between the Toronto Argonauts and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Knowing your inevitable future, do you now watch it?

Probably not. I assume if I am going to love it in the future, I will BECOME interested in it. I sure don't care right now.

17. You are sitting in an empty bar (in a town you've never before visited), drinking Bacardi with a soft-spoken acquaintance you barely know. After an hour, a third individual walks into the tavern and sits by himself, and you ask your acquaintance who the new man is. "Be careful of that guy," you are told. "He is a man with a past." A few minutes later, a fourth person enters the bar; he also sits alone. You ask your acquaintance who this new individual is. "Be careful of that guy, too," he says. "He is a man with no past."

Which of these two people do you trust less?
My acquaintance. For not elaborating. Because really, what does THAT mean?!

18. You have won a prize. The prize has two options, and you can choose either (but not both). The first option is a year in Europe with a monthly stipend of $2,000. The second option is ten minutes on the moon.

Which option do you select?
Someday I will go to Europe anyway, but seriously SHUTTLE TRIP?! Moon moon moon! When I get married I so want my honeymoon on the moon. My honey to moon on the moon. HA!

19. Your best friend is taking a nap on the floor of your living room. Suddenly, you are faced with a bizarre existential problem: This friend is going to die unless you kick them (as hard as you can) in the rib cage. If you don't kick them while they slumber, they will never wake up. However, you can never explain this to your friend; if you later inform them that you did this to save their life, they will also die from that. So you have to kick a sleeping friend in the ribs, and you can't tell them why.

Since you cannot tell your friend the truth, what excuse will you fabricate to explain this (seemingly inexplicable) attack?

That I tripped on them. And because I am such a horrible klutz they WOULD believe that... wouldn't you?

20. For whatever the reason, two unauthorized movies are made about your life. The first is an independently released documentary, primarily comprised of interviews with people who know you and bootleg footage from your actual life. Critics are describing the documentary as "brutally honest and relentlessly fair." Meanwhile, Columbia Tri-Star has produced a big-budget biopic of your life, casting major Hollywood stars as you and all your acquaintances; though the movie is based on actual events, screenwriters have taken some liberties with the facts. Critics are split on the artistic merits of this fictionalized account, but audiences love it.

Which film would you be most interested in seeing?

The 2nd just because I would want to see how somebody ELSE played me and other people in my life. hee hee!

21. Imagine you could go back to the age of five and relive the rest of your life, knowing everything that you know now. You will reexperience your entire adolescence with both the cognitive ability of an adult and the memories of everything you've learned form having lived your life previously.

Would you lose your virginity earlier or later than you did the first time around (and by how many years)?

As I have YET to do that I expect things would be the same unless OTHER things I change change things somehow that way... like, keeping in touch with my best friend in 1st grade somehow led me to, like, marrying me or something. I dunno. Who knows if things were different? I don't know.

22. You work in an office. Generally, you are popular with your coworkers. However, you discover that there are currently two rumors circulating the office gossip mill, and both involve you. The first rumor is that you got drunk at the office holiday party and had sex with one of your married coworkers. This rumor is completely true, but most people don't believe it. The second rumor is that you have been stealing hundreds of dollars of office supplies (and then selling them to cover a gambling debt). This rumor is completely false, but virtually everyone assumes it is factual.

Which of these two rumors is most troubling to you?

The first. Even if nobody believed it, if it were TRUE it is more than a rumor... it is ADULTERY. Whole lot bigger problem than people thinking I steal staplers. GEEZ!

23. Consider this possibility:

a. Think about deceased TV star John Ritter.

b. Now, pretend Ritter had never become famous. Pretend he was never affected by the trappings of fame, and try to imagine what his personality would have been like.

c. Now, imagine that this person—the unfamous John Ritter—is a character in a situation comedy.

d. Now, you are also a character in this sitcom, and the unfamous John Ritter character is your sitcom father.

e. However, this sitcom is actually your real life. In other words, you are living inside a sitcom: Everything about your life is a construction, featuring the unfamous John Ritter playing himself (in the role of your TV father). But this is not a sitcom. This is your real life.

How would you feel about this?

Confused.

the Late Great Wait for 08

A year for changes... a year for quizzes.

1. Will you be looking for a new job?

probably. A SECOND job, anyway.

2. Will you be looking for a new relationship?
Maybe? Who knows.

3. New house?
Not unless something catastrophic happens, no.

4. Do you plan on having a child?
No, I need to have sex first.

5. New Years Resolution?

I WASN'T going to do resolutions, but I SHOULD. So, once again I go to my favorite goal-making scripture Luke 2:52 (My favorite goal-ACCOMPLISHING scripture is Philippians 4:13). Talking about the way the Savior improved himself as a young man it says only "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and favour with God and man."

So those are my categories to improve in... Wisdom (Intellectual), Stature (Physical), Favor with God (Spiritual), and Favor with Man (Social). I will not put a lot, or it will just make it seem impossible. But a few in each and then I can add more through out the year.

Wisdom:
1. Always bee reading something. Have a book with me so if I get bored I don't waste time.
2. Sell more stuff on eBay for money.

Stature:
1. Join some sort of CLASS to lose weight. Either Weight Watchers or the class at my physical therapy pool.
2. Do ALL Therapy "homework" from Dr. Apparently
3. Find a good Internist and figure out what the hell is REALLY wrong with me.

Favor with God:
1. Never miss church for dumb reasons
2. Read SOME scripture every night.
3. Find SOME way to share the gospel weekly, even if it just means posting something good in the Forums or Guilds at Gaia.
4. Pray a lot more. I seriously need it.

Favor with Man:
1. Make a much better effort to stay connected to my friends. I have a tendency to withdraw and not talk to people I don't see everyday, not answer emails, etc. I want to change that.
2. Flirt better.
3. If anyone asks, I WILL go out at least once (unless, you know, I think it's a really bad idea... like if I feel like it may be scary (As in DANGEROUS NOT because I have ANXIETY)or I definitely know I don't like the person.)
4. Make my life and home a happier way/place to be by getting back into FlyLady and gaining control of my LIFE!

6. What will you not be doing in 08?
Ummm... getting married? Lots of stuff.

7. Any trips planned?

not so far, but I do not plan that far in advance.

8. Wedding plans?
I plan to go to the fewest of them I CAN, I guess?

9. Major thing on your calendar?
all the holidays?

10. What can't you wait for?
a few books being released... Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyers. Oh heck yes.

11. What would you like to see happen different
Less freaking medical mysteries, thank you very much!

12. What about yourself, will you be changing?
My health... especially my weight, My hair... probably dying it red again, and my outlook in life hopefully with the help of Dr. Apparently

13. What happened in ‘07 that you don't think will ever happen again?
Having a boyfriend, maybe. I don't know.

14. Will you be nicer to the people you care about?
I hope so... stay in touch with them better and such.

15. Will you dress differently in 08 than you did in 07?
probably not. Jeans and T-Shirts are pretty standard.

16. Will you quit drinking?
I SHOULD drink MORE! Water that is. I don't drink alcohol anyway. hee hee!

17. Will you better your relationships with your family?
I hope so, I think therapy probably helps with that, eh?

18. Will you do charity work?
Yes, I would like to.

19. Will you be nice to people you dont know?
I'll try.

20. Do you expect 08 to be a good year for you?
I really really hope so!

21. How much did you change from this time last year til now?
a lot in not so awesome ways. I think I am a more depressed and bitter person. I hope to change that.

22. What will you do different in 08?
Question 5, people. QUESTION 5!

23. Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?

I sure hope so. I have lost some people in my life, but those I have now are FREAKING AWESOME FRIENDS!!!

24. Major lifestyle changes?
be more careful with my diabetes, swim even more often, walk when I can instead of driving.

25. Moving?
hope not, no.

26. What will you make sure doesn’t happen in 08 that happened in 07?
going to the hospital so dang much, getting my heart broken, etc.

27. What were your New Years Eve plans?
Played at the padres', ate some food, played Catch Phrase with Uncle Doug, ditzy Auntie O (example: Answer was Chicago Cubs. Her clue: "This is a sports team... and I think they are in Denver" NO, they are in, umm, CHICAGO. And it was girls verses boys... so yay she was on OUR TEAM. HA!), cousins Brett, Annie, Kyle, and Vicky, and Boo (the cousin's kid... not the Gerbil).
Counted down, etc.

And there you have it. Bring on 2008. Here's hoping it is WAY better than this last bit of 07.

That's so Suet of you, Walrus...

Ummm... The Animal in You quiz is pretty accurate, but not very FLATTERING.

Walrus
Genera and species: Odobenus rosmarus
Collective Term: A suet of walrus

Description
These superficially benign individuals are usually easy to recognize. When you think of walruses, think of those large people sunning their perfectly rounded bellies at the beach. Or just think of Wilford Brimley. Either way, the walrus is that ruddy uncle at the family reunion, who dispenses charm and off-color jokes like donuts.

Aah donuts! Walruses have an unrelenting sweet tooth and a weakness for home cooking, and though they might seem comfortable with their roly-poly physiques -- one shouldn't overdo the teasing. Underneath that thick skin is a surprisingly sensitive spirit. But still, it's difficult to embarrass a walrus. Nothing in life is taken so seriously that it cannot be laughed at. Its infectious love for life contaminates everyone who has unprotected encounters with this hearty beast.

Walruses are not to be trifled with however, and as good-natured as they appear, they can be cantankerous and aggressive when slighted. Mostly however, their bark is worse than their bite and their big-hearted natures soon reassert themselves.

Although it is accustomed to large groups of people, the walrus is self-contained and respects the privacy of others. It is happiest when surrounded by the comforts of home and feels little need to travel far afield. For all their carefree mannerisms, walruses are dependable and forthright, and people are attracted to their consistent and predictable personalities. A walrus friend can always be counted on to dish out a loan or lend a hand.

Walruses don't shower their lovers with gifts, but communicate their feelings with demonstrative hugs and sloppy kisses instead. Their biggest asset is their hearty laugh; a generous, deep-bellied guffaw that can disarm even the most cynical, and with such an engaging disposition it's easy to see why walruses are so effective in their social lives. In the bedroom, the assessment is not quite so encouraging. With their belief that affection can substitute for physical contact, they tend to be lazy and indifferent to their partners' sexual needs.

Walruses not natural communicators and prefer to let their actions speak for themselves. But when pushed to disclose their feelings, they will reveal the naked truth. When they've achieved closeness with that special someone, they throw open the hatches and reveal a genuinely loving soul.

Pottery

Just got back from the doctor (waste of time. It's just a really bad cold.). I have not yet responded to Fresno's Buddy Email, but will today, I suppose. Bleh. In other news I got a good email from one of my best guy friends, Gilch, and that was nice. I have missed him. He's like my brother.

Anyway, a quiz (from Stewie)

1) Harry begins Hogwarts and is sorted into a house. Which house do you think you would be sorted in? Gryffindor = Brave Ravenclaw = Smart Hufflepuff = Loyal/hardworking Slytherin = Sly, looking for the easy way

I would say Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff even though I guess we would ALL love to say Gryffindor. But this test was pretty dang detailed and it put me in Hufflepuff

Hufflepuff

Said Hufflepuff, "I'll teach the lot, and treat them just the same."

Hufflepuff students are friendly, fair-minded, modest, and hard-working. A well-known member was Cedric Digory, who represented Hogwarts in the most recent Triwizard Tournament.

Gryffindor 74
Ravenclaw 80
Hufflepuff 89
Slytherin 57

2) The Mirror of Erised, instead of showing a reflection, shows what the subjec
t wants more than anything. What would the Mirror show you?

It's me, but I am thinner and healthy (diabetes and depression free, etc.)! Also, my house is organized and clean.

3) In The Chamber of Secrets, Harry’s new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is a celebrity with an overdeveloped case of ego. Which current celebrity do you think is overblown?

Almost all of them. I have very little respect for celebrity in general. But, yeah, probably Tom Cruise or most boy band boys.

4) Harry calls Fawkes (Dumbledore’s phoenix) to him by exhibiting loyalty. What non-family member would be able to call your phoenix?

CC.

5) In The Prisoner of Azkaban we first see a Boggart, which takes the form of whatever the person fears. What would your boggart turn into?

A Doctor or Dentist with a needle, probably.

6) Harry is able to fight off dementors by using a patronus charm which calls upon a very happy memory. What would your happy moment be?

my sugar gliders chirping in my ear happily... a glider probably would BE my patronus, too.

7) In The Goblet Of Fire Fred and George try to put their names in the goblet even though they are not old enough. What “mature” activity did you try too early?

I have actually been SLOW on most things like that. Granted, I tried to build a space shuttle in kindergarten and such, but nothing REAL. I am a slow mover.

8)In The Order of the Phoenix Harry discusses what he wants to be when he gets out of school. What did you want to be when you were 15?

A teacher. <---Me too, actually. 9) The kids take their defense against the dark arts in a room of requirement where the room becomes whatever you need. What would your personal room of requirement be–when would it appear?

Right now, I think it's just a storage room. A HUGE room with lots of shelves and house elves to help me put things in order.

After that's DONE it would become the glider room of my dreams. giant cages, rain forest murals on the walls, vines and rope lights from the ceiling, washable walls, drain in the floor and a heated hose so I could wash cages right in the room. A fridge and freezer and food prep area right there, with a mealworm and cricket farm.

10) In the Half-Blood Prince we are exposed to Felix Felicitas, a potion that will make you have a wonderful wonderful day. Tell us about a day that you would like to live over again–a wonderful day.
I don't know. I don't think I would like reliving a good day knowing how it ends. :O(

11) In the Deathly Hallows, Hermione blanks her parents' memory of her existence. Is this something you would do to protect those you loved?

YES.

12) We find that Dumbledore entrusted Snape to kill him. Do you have anyone that you would trust enough to kill you if you asked them to?

Honestly, I don't think I trust the people that love me to kill me if I asked. I think they'd balk at the last second. I'd rather ask someone who DOESN'T like me, that might get some pleasure out of it. Trust them more for it, you know. Sean from work seems a logical choice.

13) Many beloved characters do not make it to the end of the book. What fictional characters' deaths affected you (besides the ones in Harry Potter)?

I get very very very into books. I almost NEVER cry at movies but I bawled when someone died in books I loved like:

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail C. Levine

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

and The Giver by Lois Lowry.

DANGBUT I love books!
