Dolly Envy

Messing around on Pinterest today. I keep looking at Blythe dolls. BECAUSE I WANT THEM.  What is it about useless (but fun) expensive things that makes me want them so much just so my relative poverty can smack me in the face?

Useless, but like a combination of toy and ART! *SIGH*

On the other hand, my grand idea of stempunking Cabbage Patch Kids (under the name Steamed Cabbages, mind you. The name is one of the best parts!) has not exactly taken off due to my complete and utter lack of skill at sewing the awesome doll clothes in my brain. BUYING the CPKs, that I can do. I have, now, a closetfull of naked Cabbage Patches awaiting new identities and no real talent to do what I want with them. And that pisses me off. WHY CAN'T MY HANDS DO WHAT MY MIND DOES?!

Happy-ish New Years

It is New Year's Eve and I am still debating whether to go to Comedy Sportz with the sybs or not.  I feel SO sick.  I am throwing up and generally feeling miserable.  Though my critters are making me feel better.  I've got Fable out in the play tent and she is running around spazzing and jumping.  She is crazy!  I love her. <3

I am also taking pictures of  Jack and Sally Clementine on the Piano (because they just look cool on the keys!).  They are such amazing animals.  Clementine is sweet and shy.  Jack is full of himself and a jerk.  But I do so love them both.

I also decided I needed a more Steampunkish computer.  If I was talented I would make something like THIS:

But as I am not I went to SkinIt. And did this:

Okay.  I'm not going.  I feel terrible.  BoyKid and Rinny are going now.  Mom and Padre are headed to a party.  I will be ringing in 2011 with my animals.

Better than Meds

Today I am carding wool.  Well, not so much carding as cleaning as I am just doing it with my fingers, but my plan is to have some fresh fluffy wool to my my core wool in Needle Felted creations!  I ordered Roving (the colored wool) and am excited to MAKE something.  Honestly I have been doing so much better, Depression-wise and I don't think it is due to my Cymbalta, Welbutrin, or Abilify, though I am sure they help.

1. My Psychologist, Holly, has me doing SOMETHING creative for at least 1/2 hour a day to escape from pain and stress.
2. Ola, My Nigerian.

Quilling, needle felting, planning Steamed Cabbages, drawing... these things don't actually make me not hurt (sometimes they make me hurt more... at least my hands do) but they seem to help me feel better emotionally, even from just a little half hour session of  it all.  Helps to have a project, like I do when I can go to work.  I like my work.

And MyNigerian, well, I am amazed at how happy that guy makes me.  He makes me happier, braver, more able to cope.  He encourages me constantly and is a wonderful spiritual example.  I think I'm going to marry that boy eventually. He's amazing. AMAZING!  And look at that SMILE! *Le Sigh!*

Today has been a hard day for me.  It's beautiful and springy and I should have been at church but instead I felt crappy as can be.  Hurting, and sick... throwing up with a migraine.  I didn't go to church. Didn't do much at all.

I still feel bad, but I read MyNigerian's most recent letter, did some wool, watched Bewitched, and I am feeling at least a little better. <:O)

Movies, Westminster, and My Back Attack

So, I saw 4 movies this holiday weekend. Well, part of 1 of them.  Good Night, and Good Luck I turned off because it was SOOOOOOOOOO BORING.

The Jane Austen Book Club - NOT what I expected. For some reason I expected it to be funny.  Or reflect more Austen.  It wasn't.  It was mildly depressing, but mostly just sort of dumb and, again boring.

Sherlock Holmes - LOVED it. Action, fun, mystery. Lots of humor, even a little steampunk mixed in!

Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging - being a huge fan of the books I could see it going either way, but no, it was cute and fun!

So those are my thoughts.  In case you were wondering, this is such a movie weekend because I hurt my back really bad doing sit-ups in the pool.  It is just killing me.  I am now sitting against an ice pack, taking muscle relaxers, and watching a DOG SHOW. hee hee hee.  Dog show people are funny.  *sigh*  I want a dog. :(

www.sodangofficialifeelsoprofessionalnow.com

SO the TaD thing I did today, check it out I got REAL DOMAIN NAMES!  granted there is nothing much THERE yet, but the addresses, yeah, I OWN them. Booyah! steamedcabbages.com AND critters2goparties.com are both mine, al mine! BWAHAHA!

Steamed Cabbages is just my little doll decorating venture and I am on my own on that so it looks about as cool as it is going to minus the pics of the dolls because, well, the dolls themselves are not done.  But Critters 2 Go I have a PRO/best friend Steph helping me on so whenever she gets time it is going to look freaking awesome.  Until then, my site is still just www.critters2go.homestead.com made by amateur me.

I also cut one of the dolls' hair (I think she will be an Engineer type) and decided on the riding clothes for The Gentleman.

And took a nap with Cali the Cat.

So, yeah, productive-ish day. :)

p.s. I think I have a crush on a Nigerian guy in Spain. <3

The birth of the MWPCC, the Gnome Rehoming, and Steamed Cabbage... TRIPLETS?!?!

Oh SO many projects! And not all of them work projects. In fact, MOST of them NOT work.
But hey! Happy results so far.

Here goes: So, I started this club.  Mostly for sugar glider people, but also for your basic small exotic (ferret, rat, dwarf hamster, what have you) people.  And for once not just an online thing but a dare to meet in real life and pray I am not too sick for said meeting thing!

The Mountain West Pocket Critters Conference

Yep, and we had our FIRST PARTY/MEETING THIS WEEKEND! And it was fun!  I planned it and still it worked out and I had fun with out being too terribly stressed.  We talked about stuff, had games with prizes, a gift exchange, soup and swap, made emergency kits for our critters, and watched in combined glee and disgust as our babies hunted juvinle Hissing Cockroaches. Yuck, I know. It was funny.  And we all had fun!  And the club is STARTED at last.  Finally we have a sugar glider group in Utah. And I made it happen! And everyone can run with it.  The next one will be at someone else's house and somewhere else the next. But I got it going and I am just... proud of myself. *TOOT* <--my own horn

And then there is Steamed Cabbage.  I am shopping thrift stores, restoring old Cabbage Patch Dolls and then making them Steampunk!  I am learning how to sew in order to do it (all handmade clothes). Yes, I am a geek, I do things backwards. 1. go pro with a title. 2. Become obsessed with idea 3.learn skill for hobby.

And my new secret (well, semi-secret. *I* am telling you I'm behind it!) hobby. Rehoming Gnomes. Hee hee hee hee!  It's part prank, part game, part social experiment, part publicity stunt, part insanity.
Wanna help? Spread the word! Or send me your gnomes to find places for. (You know, all those gnomes you have. Ha ha!)

So there you go.

OH, but one more thing. Haiti. That's not a hobby but has been on my mind, I guess on everyone's mind.  I have always assumed when I got to that point in my life I WOULD adopt... kids from Romania, to be specific.  But now, well, it's got me thinking maybe my children will end up being from Haiti.  It's an odd thought.  But it has me thinking a lot about the Haitian people.  Praying for them a LOT.  And gathering medical supplies for them.  If you want to help, here is a good, trustworthy way: Help Send Volunteers to Haiti! Thius is the "Healing Hands for Haiti" that you may have heard about.  I know 2 people with them... one of the ER Docs and their Press Secretary is my friend and she gave me that link.

Nine and BoyKid

I went with my little brother, BoyKid to a movie today! It was fun to hang out with him. We were PLANNING to see Where the Wild Things Are but it's not playing anywhere, so instead we went to Nine.

I liked it! It was rather creepy and unsettling but awesome and beautiful at the same time.
It was like The Secret of NIMH and the Steampunk comic, FreakAngels, had a baby and named it 9. I THINK I recommend it. It was super good. But don't take little kids to it unless you want them to have nightmares for a month.

Pretty Sure a Cat is mandatory when you are 30 and single

Yet again I am behind in my writing, so here is a little recap of my recent life changes...

I turned 30. And Befriended a cat. Figures, eh?

My awesome friends threw me a surprise party! I got 30 of all kinds of little things. 30 little plushies, 30+ bubble gum coins, 30+ ring pops, etc. We played on the Wii on the Big Screen, and I got an action figure of Hiro from Heroes who I crush (I'm a nerd, yeah) and SoftLips and yummy cake. Also really yummy food that I could really only suck on due to the pain in my teeth at the time but it was the thought that counted and they were AWESOME.

I got a few MORE root canals and realized I can no longer go to regular dentist for this stuff, even good ones. My problems are too complicated. I hate my teeth.

My fam got me a pass to the Aquarium which rocks since it's very near my Endodontist. So I have been able to use it OFTEN. Those stingrays are gonna start RECOGNIZING me, I tell ya!
I love it. Plus, this now makes it both Living Planet AND the Zoo that I have a pass too. Since I WORK at Thanksgiving Point (though I haven't been able to go in for forever), about the only animals I CAN'T see anytime I want are those at Secret Garden in Vegas. I need a membership THERE now! HA!

Now I am dealing with a craptastic stomach thing. As usual we don't know what it is, except that I had some really bad test results in the ER last awhile ago, which led to a colonoscopy and endoscopy yesterday and a liver biopsy planned for Friday. But right now I am just on lots of meds, and hurting a lot.

I am still living at the parents' and neglecting my OWN apartment (and my turtle and tortoise. :O( Bummer.) where the Roomie is. My best friend at this house is totally that cat, even though I am really a dog person.

And I am totally digging all things Steampunk. A beautiful combination of history and science fiction... and making technichal things look old and weird and lovely.... AND talking all British and saying things like "What what" and "By Jove!".... WHY am I late to this party?!

Tweeting my way back out of Obscurity?

So, it's been a long time since I updated, so here is the gist. My hilarious brother, BoyKid, is back, my best friend around here is a very strange little cat with OCD, and I spend at least a day a week at the dentist or doctor. I am becoming obsessed with the beautiful modifications of Steampunk, I am using Twitter, and I am still living at the padres' while the Roomie is roommates with my turtles. And with that, hopefully, I will try to write more in the future.
