Tweeting my way back out of Obscurity?

So, it's been a long time since I updated, so here is the gist. My hilarious brother, BoyKid, is back, my best friend around here is a very strange little cat with OCD, and I spend at least a day a week at the dentist or doctor. I am becoming obsessed with the beautiful modifications of Steampunk, I am using Twitter, and I am still living at the padres' while the Roomie is roommates with my turtles. And with that, hopefully, I will try to write more in the future.

Shell Shock

What a week.

First of all, I tested, interviewed, and got hired at another job. Yay.
It is outbound, calling people for surveys... basically annoying the general populous... and yes, it is going to be boring.

So why accept it?
Because it starts a buck more an hour than TGP and can go up to 4 bucks more.
Because it is local and so much less travel.
But MOSTLY because it is WORK WHEN YOU WANT and that means I can STILL work at Thanksgiving Point and just Fill In the OTHER days with PGM! YAY!

It's a dang good thing I took the typing tests THAT day, though, because the next day at work (teaching Pumpkin carving at Pumpkin Palooza!) I broke my left ring finger in a folding chair. I can still type (luckily I type bad... not "home row") but it is a lot slower because when I accidentally use the broken tip I scream. It is just the bone ABOVE the tip top joint (the distal phalanx)... so I can move it and don't have a splint because that doesn't even help. All I got for it is pain pills. DUMB.

But it is amazing how much something so LITTLE can hurt.

Yes, I am SO jinxed.

I went to a few doctors this week... my Neurologist and Doogie my OBGYN and my awesome foot doctor. I have even MORE pills to take. More dumb medical mysteries.

On the other hand, I am having a pretty good time trying to get this Tortoise to thrive. Poor little dude. I named him Bratanik (means boy cousin). But I have been calling him Little Brudder... even though he does have all his limbs. I am falling for him. I knew it would happen. Even a dusty old tortoise can steal your heart if you let it in your house. SIGH.

He wasn't eating. He FINALLY is, but refuses to eat from a dish. I a still going to get him checked out soon as I get a pay check and find the most reasonably priced herp vet. He isn't well, but I would like to be sure he isn't, like, riddled with parasites or anything.

Bratanik isn't as colorful as his "Brother" Tortuga nor is he as friendly... but hopefully he will get used to us.There are humans, dogs, birds... and we have no idea what his life was like before. In fact there is a HUGE portion of Russian Tortioses in the opet trade that were WILD caught, poor things. So who knows.

But we will do our best to get him well AND win him over!

Workin' It...

I LOVE my job. I hate my health. I am not such a great fan of how much I get paid, either. But I love the job itself. Especially the Harry Potter themed classes because around Halloween it is just EXTRA fun! WE GOT TO LET THE STUDENTS MEET REAL OWLS! I admit I was 10 times as hyper about that as the kiddlets, but HELLO! OWLS!

But as much as I love my job, I am just not getting the hours... and therefore the money for things like a much needed basking lamp for the new tortoise. Also, you know, Groceries... meds... etc. but at least those my family will help with. But their parental devotion only extends to, you know... HUMANS. My TGP wages barely pay my bills, but they do. But for the things that matter to me; my BABIES, I really need more income.

So, I am job hunting. However, the fact that right now I have doctor's appointments a couple times a week makes getting a new job near impossible. "Hi, I will never be at work... can you hire me?"

"I kiss you!"

You know how you shouldn't go grocery shopping when you are hungry?

Likewise, you shouldn't go to the pet store when you are sad and lonely.

Does anyone know the Russian word for Brother? Because that's his name. And I DIDN'T BUY HIM, by the way. He was free, for adoption because someone LEFT him outside Petco.

An abandoned little orphan. Poor Russian for Brother. Nobody loved him!!!

And so, yeah. Now we have a pathetic looking Russian Tortoise.

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!

Okay, 2 hilarious things. First of all, trying to find out what Brother is in Russian (because he is my turtle, Tortuga's adopted brother) and I am searching and the first site with that information (in Romanized pronunciation) is apparently for MAIL ORDER BRIDES! Because Look at the phrases it teaches! (And how many times it says "Marry me" in different ways)

"DJ takes up Prostitution...

a Very Special Full House... I mean Friday Fave Fives!

e-Missions: Moon, Mars, and Beyond, (the WannaBe Space Camp) Highlights!

1. Best Resource: STELLARIUM. Available for FREE at http://www.stellarium.org/ for download it is really fun and the kids love making the ground disappear, zooming in on planets, and making the PICTURES of the constellations appear over the constellations themselves. You can do a TON with it if you are willing to explore the hot keys.

I HIGHLY recommend it.

2. Best Book: Next Stop Neptune: Experiencing the Solar System by Alvin and Steve Jenkins. Well, my favorite illustrations anyway. I liked the collage-style, especially the cloudy stuff. Awesome.

3. Best way to teach graphing: Draw a Shuttle.

4. Best hands on way to understand the size of the Solar System:
Marking receipt paper with scaled distance. One half did Astronomical Unit equaling one centimeter. But another we did AU equaling a METER... and look how far it stretched!

5. BUT THE VERY BEST PART OF THE DAY CAMP:

It is over and it is the LAST day camp of the summer!!!!!!!!

However, some other, ummm, honorable mentions and basically random stuff from camp.

* glue sticks, scissors, and a lot of patience... build a shuttle that FLIES! (It's a pdf)

* a cool NON-flying paper model shuttle (the other models are awesome too, if you like those things!)

* A TON of logic puzzles like this:

Outer Space Circus Sideshows
by Randall L. Whipkey

Last Tuesday when the Outer Space Circus came to town for a performance, Bobby and Teddy thrilled at the Midway with its panorama of exotic sideshows featuring beings from across the Milky Way. The boys paid to see five sideshow performers, including the Head, a being with no body. Can you find the order during the day in which Bobby and Teddy saw the five outlandish acts: the name (one is No Wa Ben) and home world (one is from PsiReef) of each geek and what makes each Outer Space Circus sideshow material?

  1. Bobby and Teddy saw Ji-Dome earlier in the day than the being from the planet New Oz; they saw the New Oz alien earlier than they enjoyed the perplexed look on the Teleprobe's face as he read their minds.
  2. Immediately after visiting the tent where they were in awe of the Transparent Man, a creature whose internal body parts are visible through a totally clear skin, the boys took in the native of Ilegate.
  3. Bobby and Teddy were wowed by the Walking Stick, a 13-foot alien also billed as the Tallest Being in the Galaxy, right before they saw the Incredible Kreskeno's act.
  4. The boys saw TuPaK immediately after paying to see the native of the planet Andromeda-77 but earlier in the day than they saw the Sheebang Charmer, who works with the Milky Way's deadliest serpents.
  5. The being whose sideshow they saw 2nd isn't Azaliana.
  6. The tents of Kreskeno and the sideshow geek from New Oz were next to each other on the Midway.
  7. Ji-Dome, who isn't the Sheebang Charmer, and the native of Andromeda-77 require special breathing chambers to live on Earth.
  8. TuPaK was Bobby's favorite sideshow entertainer; the being from planet Qrptn was Teddy's.
(Answer)
* a little rocket Tangram. (another pdf, just fyi)

* hot dog shuttle. Eww. Hot Dogs. But cute?

* hilarious kids. Because, well, they just ARE.

You'll notice I am only talking about the good stuff. That is on purpose. This was a rather hellish week. And I would rather just FORGET some of it, you know?

Yeah, even though I love the SUBJECT, just bad... timing. Emotionally.

Anyway it was the last day today. And the last day camp of the summer. WOO HOO!

So, between field trips and after school classes, my next big project will be to do for the Children's Garden what I was doing for the Dinosaur Museum. Basically make up field trip curriculum that follow state standards. So that's where my job is headed temporarily (like, till winter. (When I will definitely NOT be moving to California...))Well, that and I may go back to substitute teaching if it doesn't give me enough hours, but I am not that worried about it right now... I am a "part-time" employee who RARELY goes home before 7 at present. So, yeah, I am not worried about hours yet. I *will* be... but right now I NEED less. Because I can't really handle things right now.

Last night I set up my Padre's tank for my little boy Tortuga and he LOVES it! It is only temporary (I am BORROWING it... he gets it back for fish when they move. And so I will keep looking for a big tank) but needed and he looks SO much happier already! He LOVES more room to swim. It makes me happy to see HIM happy. He's a good little turtle.

Teenage Messy Nolongervegitarian Turtle

If I keep busy... OR keep stupid (sleep/occasional but appropriate pills/watch dumb TV shows and moves)... I can keep from thinking about Fresno all the time.

This morning CC came to get me and we went to Stewbert's church to support her awesome daughter Munchkin in her decision to be baptized! Maybe that's an odd way to put it, but I believe even a kid (but especially an awesome one like Munchkin who is one of my favorites) makes that CHOICE and commitment and should be recognized for that. It ISN'T just a given. It's a big thing. A huge step. And bravo to her for making it. :O)

Then we went back to The Ark and played with the dogs (who were sore from overdoing it on the hike The Roomie took them on as part of that Date the other day, I think.) and tormented the parrots a little while waiting for TheBoy to call CC back and do some computer thing. CC ended up taking a short nap on the couch before he even called. He's an idiot. But then, he's a GUY so I guess that's a little redundant.

I didn't cry much today. Just a little during Munchkin's cousin(?)'s confirmation and for awhile later in the afternoon and then again this evening. But in general I kept occupied enough not to cry extensively. Progress.

Things I am thinking about a lot today... about changing myself so I like me better:

Losing Weight... WW, funny recipes, and frustration with doctors.

Getting my dang house in order. ie: FlyLady

Taking better care of my babies. Basically, more play time with my suggies, and I am on a desperate search for a free 30 gallon or bigger aquarium for Tortuga. He is an angsty teenage turtle right now and NEEDS MORE SPACE but I can't buy one right now. He even attacked and ate all but the HEAD of his catfish friend Daveycat! So I am pouring over Craigslist and Freecycle but I don't know if it will be fast enough. He has ESCAPED a few times already. He needs a big boy room now, poor little dude.

Church. Tomorrow the "special" ward may have gotten my records from the other ward. I don't love either. But I think I dislike this one a lot less. At least as of last week. So, yeah. Kind of nervous to be official though. We'll see.

Unfortunately, He still seems to be attached to every thought, even at the edges. It is annoying. Go away, you stupid heart.

Farewell Sweet Suzy and Windmill Punch

My mom is visiting my grandpa's grave today. OH. And GRANDMA'S. That's just... weird. I still forget she's dead. Grandpa B., well, he died when I was still little. But Grandma, I still expect her to, like, come to family stuff. Anyway, what am *I* doing this fine Memorial Day to remember those who have died? NOTHING.

Well, that's not QUITE true. I am watching a MASH marathon and eating soup and taking pills and playing with the parrots. And we have a flag in our yard (because we gave a donation to the Boy Scouts.).

I was so annoyed when I called in sick this morning, though. Rinny said, "Oh, I was going to give everyone the day off for Memorial Day anyway. TGP's open, but USU Extensions is closed." CRAP!
"Okay, that just sucks."
"Why?"
"If I wasn't sick I could totally go to Ikea with [CC]!"
"Oh, I am sorry I forgot to tell you!"
"Well, I couldn't ACTUALLY decided not to have this... whatever it is... anyway."
"Oh, right."

As for what it is, apparently it is a sinus infection and MAYBE Bronchitis! UGH! That MUST be gone mid-week! I am busy this weekend damnitall I do NOT have time to be ill! I am poisoning this Cold tout suite! Azithromycin, Cold Eeze, echinacea, Airborne, Vitamin C, Mucinex, Sudafed and more chicken soup than anyone person should consume. BLEH.

Oh, and of course, lots and lots of "clear liquids" even though I am SO sick of water and anything that either has sugar or fizzes makes me cough. Double Bleh.

Random tangent (Ha! As if everything I SAY isn't just a squiggling bundle of random tangents?) sometimes I call water Windmill Punch. Not ALWAYS, but sometimes it pops out as if is the most normal thing in the world. In Texas we got our water from these water filter thingies... big bottled water refill stations in parking lots shaped like windmills. This old man we taught used to call water Windmill Punch because of that. And sometimes I forget WHY and just think filtered water is called Windmill Punch by normal people. I was thinking that today.

And yes, apparently I am so boring today that I am talking about WATER.

It is gross and muggy in my house today. I am NOT looking forward to the summer making things even HOTTER. Watering the gardens is a pain, too. I am in charge of the gardens this weekend, as well as bird-sitting, but I REALLY don't mind considering the Roomie will tend MY furbabies while I'm in California (where they are illegal. Grrrr.) The Roomie is camping out in Kanab, taking our little Suzy Sparrow on the first leg of her journey to her new Mama, who lives in Illinois! But before she heads east she will get some paper work and more veterinary care at the very awesome Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I have worked with them before and getting Suzy "in" was a GREAT blessing. But still, even though we haven't had Suzy very long and are so proud of how much better she is doing now, we will MISS HER!

However, yeah, it's getting warm. And I feel crappy. So, BAD combo. Maybe I'll watch something cold. March of the Penguins, maybe? And I am going downstairs where I will not roast as much for a bit. Maybe I will do some more laundry, too, and at least ATTEMPT to scale Mount Washmore and do some Flying (15 minutes at a time, right?!)!

I NEED SOME PRODUCTIVITY!!! Tomorrow, I MAY be able to get away with another sick day if it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY (but mostly because my sister/boss is a hypochondriac and major germophobic and is scared I'm going to make her sick) but Wednesday is UNDEBATABLE. That's Robotics Camp training! And Thursday is a big training day, too, and THEN I FLY! (as in, in a plane.... not FlyLady. Just to disambiguate.)

P.S. Is there a tornado coming or something? Because my turtle AND gerbil are both SPAZZING OUT over here! I feel like they need to get out, but I think they spray the lawn and don't want Tortuga touching something he shouldn't. And Boo is a little Houdini, so she can't be in a play pen and doesn't seem to like the hamster ball. She just sits in it and tries to climb up me in it.

And by the way, P.P.S. I am a dork but...

It was my fault.

Today has been... trying. I was really sick. My turtle escaped (he's okay now). Our neighbor came over to tell us they have termites... on a shared wall.

And just a bit ago I got in a car accident.

Yeah, I was going to the store and was turning left. I had signaled. I had looked... but apparently looking and seeing are not the same thing. I didn't see her at all, the girl in the van. We both swerved... but I still hit her passenger-side door with what used to be my passenger-side headlight and is now more of a passenger-side gaping hole.

We are both okay. Both our cars are old. But now her door sticks, and I can't signal turning right. And it will be expensive. But it could have been so much worse.

I have finally stopped shaking and crying, though I am in no mood to get in my car again. I feel so sick thinking about it. But I will *have* to drive Tuesday to school. I want to throw up.
